Define the goal

Know what problem the commitment is solving before comparing products.

Measure the full commitment

Include deposits, recurring payments, fees, variable components and exit costs where known.

Stress-test the downside

Ask what happens if income changes, rates rise, a product fails or the commitment lasts longer than expected.

Check reversibility

A decision with a short cancellation path is different from a guarantee, secured loan or long fixed contract.
