Identify the document
Know whether you are looking at a quote, application, authorization, contract, waiver, guarantee or other instrument; the label can affect expectations but not replace the actual terms.
Find the obligations
Look for what each party must do, how much money is involved, when performance is due and what happens if circumstances change.
Check duration and exit terms
Renewal, cancellation, termination fees and notice requirements can be as important as the starting price.
Do not sign around blanks or pressure
If essential terms are missing or someone refuses time to read the document, that is a reason to slow the process and seek clarification or advice.
